I'm a Virginia native who grew up with a passion for the outdoors, hunting, and wildlife. My father gave me my first shotgun on my 12th birthday and from then on I was in the woods or field at every opportunity. Even during my years at the Virginia Military Institute I created ways to hunt and fish almost weekly. Upon graduation, I entered the Coast Guard and after a tour in Alaska I was stationed in Alexandria, VA. One benefit of being in the service was being eligible to hunt on other bases. I found myself taking full advantage of this and spent countless hours in the duck blind, tree stand, or dove field without the company of a hunting dog, it didn't take too many personal retrieves and lost game to realize that there was a better way – not only for companionship but for the ethical recovery of game.
After a lot of time and homework, I decided on a Deutch Drahthaar from Moorehaus kennel in GA. After picking my puppy up all of my focus and free time was spent training and molding her into the best hunting dog that she could be. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her progress and mature into a versatile hunting dog that exceeded all of my expectations. Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to hunt all over North America in pursuit of all kinds of game. The common denominator in all of my successful hunts were well-bred dogs who had been trained and who could provide ethical recovery of game by either pointing, retrieving, tracking, or a combination of them.
I spent the seasons of 06/07 and 07/08 outside Stuttgart, AR as a waterfowl guide with my best friend. Only a few customers brought their own dogs so we were responsible for almost all retrieves, some being hundreds of yards. Nothing can mess up a hunt quicker than an unruly dog or disappoint a paying customer quicker than a failed retrieve on a great shot. Only a few birds over two seasons were lost and our dogs were definitely an asset, not a liability, during each hunt which made for happy customers and repeat business.
My love of dogs and training them has led me to open my own kennel to provide a safe place for people to board their dogs and to share my knowledge and experience to train or to help people train their dogs. |
